Elder Paisios the Hagiorite, the Friend of Children

Little Arsenios was born almost a century ago in today’s Turkey, in a large
family. Inspired by the example of Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian, his mentor,
and gifted by God with a bright mind and a lot of faith, Arsenios was loved by
everyone for his benevolence. He helped anyone who was in need and he taught
poor children about the Orthodox faith. Ever since his childhood, Arsenios
wanted to become a monk. But this dream was fulfilled many years later in
the Holy Mount Athos where he received the name Paisios. There he became a
great ascetic and he received from God the gift of taming wild animals. He gave
sweets to the children who came to his cell and advised them to do good deeds,
and they repaid him with their love and gratitude.

For his life of prayer and self-sacrifice, Elder Paisios remained in the memory
of the faithful as a healer of sufferings, counselor of monks and Christian
families, for whom he still intercedes before God.
